Transportation is often one of the big-ticket costs of long travel. If you have the time and patience, it’s almost always best financially to use public transport between countries instead. But not always.

If you need to travel vast distances or have limited time, flights are the more convenient and practical choice. And often, they can be the more economical choice as well.

In 2016, we took our first family trip around the world. To start getting an idea of how much money I needed to budget for flights, one of my early steps was to use Google Flights to see which cities we could jump in and out of for the cheapest fares.

Google Flights has a flexible feature that you may not be aware of to streamline that process. Let’s take a look at how to do it.
